I discovered that going swimming with your car keys in your pocket isn't a good idea. When the rust starts to oooze out of the remote control thingy it stops working. No problem I thought, just ring the local Mitsubishi dealer. I'm sure they were rubbing their hands together before I even rang. $70 to buy one remote and then another $95 to reprogram it. Geeez, but isn't Google a wonderful thing? Within a few minutes I had already reprogrammed it on my own. The actual reprogramming itself is done from the drivers seat, requires nothing other than your car key, takes about 5 seconds and they charge $95 for it !!!!!!!

It must be time for an update. A couple of weeks ago we drove up to Launceston and borrowed Lisa for the day whilst we visited AGFEST. If you have never been to this before then you really must check it out. We have never seen so many people all in the one place (at least not in Tasmania!). We spent the night with Stuart, Sharon, Anika and Lisa before driving back the next day. Last weekend when Dad finally finished working from home (who said the weekends were for resting?) we went up to Max and Beth's place to catch up with them as well as Ian and Jane who were down from Sydney with their six month old baby Joshua. Very cute!

Emma has just returned from the Kingston High School grade seven camp. They spent three days at Orana near Seven Mile Beach. For some obscure reason Emma and her mates were put in a hut miles from anywhere while the rest of the group slept in the main building. There were a few drama queens (Emma was one of the worst) in the middle of the night when an axe murdering possum spooked the girls and they ran screaming through the night to the main building only to find the door locked.

Targa Tasmania for 2006 has been run and won. Jim Richards did his thing and made it look easy. Dad was lucky enough to be asked to help out again. The last time Dad was a Targa volunteer was in 1999 on the Howden stage. This time he was the communications officer for the stop point on the Mount Arrowsmith stage. Having to get out of bed at 4:30am on a very cold Sunday morning wasn't easy and sitting outside for a few hours when it's only seven degrees (many thanks to the guy in the fancy Commodore with the temperature thingy for pointing that out) and the cloud has descended to road level was interesting, but it was a heap of fun.

One of Emma's best friends (Erica) and her mum came to visit from Perth Western Australia this week. Emma hadn't seen them since they left Hobart about two years ago. Erica was able to stay a night at Emma's mum's place so Brad was at serious risk of contracting girl germs again. They watched movies, tallked, ate food, talked, walked to BigW and talked a bit as well.

Dad needed a new computer, Brad wanted to build a new computer and so it happened! Dad ordered the bits needed from an online supplier in Perth Western Australia and Brad put it all together. There were a few minor issues along the way, but it all went pretty well. We took some photos as things progressed and they have been uploaded to our pictures section. We have also writen a few words about the whole thing that can be viewed by clicking on the "read more ..." link below.

What started as a massive hole in the ground became Tasmania's largest BigW store last week and it's just down the road from our place. To celebrate they put on a fireworks display that we thought might be a little bit average, but was definitely well worth standing around in the cold for. Unfortunately we chose to buy some stuff on Saturday. That was a huge mistake. There were stacks of people there and we ended up in a self serve queue. Those stupid self serve machines have been custom designed to frustrate and annoy even the most patient person. Ours kept telling us to put stuff in the bags even though the stuff was already in the bags. Putting more stuff in the bags just made it angry. Geeez!

Our Grandad runs a scrap metal business in Launceston. It's called Groometals and they are buyers and suppliers of steel, copper, brass, radiators, lead, and aluminum cans. If you are in Launceston then you can find them at 37 Gleadow Street or you can call them on 03 6331 8391. Their old Volvo truck was starting to get a bit long in the tooth so Gerry went out and bought a second hand Mack. He lengthened the chassis, bolted on the Hiab crane and the tray off the Volvo and then had a guy paint it all up. Grandad is pretty proud of his big Mack and Uncle Stuart had to be prised out of it to take the photos that have been uploaded to the "Others" photo gallery. Perhaps Brad can have a drive the next time we are in Launceston?
