OK, it's been a very crazy past few weeks. I guess the biggest thing for all of us is that we have moved into Legoland. It still feels a bit like a holiday to me and I can't help but think that I have to duck down to reception to pay the bill before I leave! It's kinda weird to think that I can just go and have a swim whenever I want or practice my tennis serve before I start tea. It's also weird to drive North(ish) out of Kingston with my shopping, I keep heading in the wrong direction. As for some of the comments I made in my last post? "Tennis": I'm still playing in the club competition and taking lessons as well. I'm improving all the time. Nick has me concentrating on getting the racket back early and pointing the butt of the racket in the direction I want the ball to go. Those two things have been a huge help. Unfortunately last week my opponent didn't turn up and as I play him in all three games it meant I just had to go home. I get the three points, but I'd rather have the exercise and experience. "Injury": Nick was watching me hit returns the other day and said "Your letting the ball get too high on you, you will hurt your shoulder hitting the ball like that". Funny thing was my shoulder was killing me and had been for a few weeks! "Crappy land lords": Thank God I'm rid of them! This bit is going to cover a number of other comments I made in the previous story. The owners of my last house meant well (I think), but they just have no idea when it comes to leasing property. I was the ideal tenant. I knew that, the real estate lady knew it, but they just didn't get it. They fought me all the way, refusing to do anything that I asked for no matter how small or cost effective it might have been. The only concession they made was to install a new hot water cylinder, but they only did that after two years of complaints and even then I had to embarrass them publicly by posting video of the stuffed hot water system on YouTube before they would act. They told me they were selling so I tried to buy it. We couldn't agree on price so I found Legoland and signed a lease. 24 hours later they changed their minds and just expected me to stay on. HELLO!!!!! This seemed to upset them somewhat as they then became crazy. I knew they were fussy, but that wasn't going to be an issue as the house was spotless and I had fixed heaps of stuff myself whilst I had been there, however I still made sure that everything was perfect before I left. Then 24 hours before I move out I receive a call from the real estate agent who almost sounded embarrassed to be saying it. "The owners have asked me to inform you that they have photo's of every plant, shrub and garden bed and they expect everything to be just as they left it or they will be withholding your bond". FAIR BLOODY DINKUM!!!! 24 hours before I move out. If they really wanted me to maintain their little botanical gardens for them then they would have said that three years ago when I moved in. I might have expected a comment or two from the real estate agent given that they have done an inspection every six months for the past three years. They could have even said it when I gave them my two weeks notice, but no they told me 24 hours before I move out and the next day was forecast to be 38 degrees. Emma was away (more on that later), so Brad and I worked our butts off to ensure that everything was perfect. It took us a whole day to weed and primp everything back to their exacting standards (not that I had a copy of their photo's). We left the place absolutely exhausted. I haven't worked that hard for a very long time and Brad was really worried that I was going to have a heart attack or something! As you have probably already guessed, this is only the beginning of this drama. I'll continue the saga in my next post - I think I should probably go and have a swim now!

You could be excused for thinking that I've been asleep for a few weeks. I know it's been a while since I last posted here, but my life has a blur of tennis, injury, crappy landlords, P&F, blown up vacuum cleaner, broken plates, house move, swimming, no Internet (aaarrrggghhh), cracked tiles, lost keys, dead man ferns, heating oil, missing curtain hooks, lost pole, school trip, sunburn, filthy range hood, missing instructions, boxes, boxes, boxes and pizza (oh no, another box!). I'll explain some of these things some time real soon.

Now if this doesn't leave you with a smile on your face then nothing
ever will. I stumbled upon aYouTube video made by a guy called Juan
Mann. He was feeling a bit lonely after arriving back in his home town
of Sydney from overseas and just wanted someone to greet him at the
airport with a big hug like all of the other happy families. He then
embarked on a "free hug" campaign. Check out his website here, but be
sure to turn up the speakers and watch the video first (over 24 million
others have!).

Time for another update. Things have started to look up. Two of the companies that I'm holding have really taken off. Minemakers (MAK) is going gangbusters at the moment. I've sold half my holding in the company to lock in the profit which means that the remaining half is completely paid for so there is no risk at all as I'm now playing with someone else's money! Accent Resources (ACS) has been doing very badly. I was meant to sell that one off for a loss months ago, but I missed the sell and decided to ride it out. I'm glad I did, because it has turned around and is now in the black. The other winner at the moment is Australian Education Unit (AEU). This is is a complete gamble as I've gone out on my own and decided to buy without any recommendations. For that reason, I only bought 1000 units. AEU is the company that owns the buildings that ABC childcare centres rent. As you probably know ABC has taken a huge dive and trading has been stopped on the ASX. That obviously had a bad effect on AEU and their share value has tumbled as well. I figure that even if ABC goes bust all of those kids have to be cared for somewhere, so I reckon worse case is someone buys out ABC and takes over the centres (AEU still have a tenant), or ABC recovers (AEU still has a tenant), either way I think that AEU will recover and I'll be there to grab the quick profit! Just to point out how well my portfolio is going at the moment I decided to add a third line to my graph. I'm now tracking my portfolio value (cash and stocks), the value of my initial stake if I had left it in the bank earning interest (cash), and the Australian All Ordinaries (All Ords). Check out the past few weeks!

As some of you may know, the old guy who used to own the house that I rent passed away a while ago. That's obvioulsy a sad event, however it also meant that I may have had to look for somewhere else to live. His two daughters inherited the house and were happy for me to stay on as a tennant, however they now need some cash and want to sell. That's a bad thing for me. I have tried to come to an agreement on price so that I can buy it myself, however we have very different expections. That lead me to look for another rental property. The rental price of a three bedroom house has gone through the roof latley. I just couldn't find anything that was half decent and affordable so I started looking at villa unit's. I actually signed the forms on one before I realised that there wasn't anywhere to store all of the stuff that I currently have in my garage. Last weekend I looked at the private rentals in the paper and found the one. It's in the fairly new Whitewater estate in Kingston. I've never been into apartment living, and I remember laughing at this development when it went up. The apartments are all funky colours and situated around the outside of a big rectangular block like tents at a caravan park. I looked at it reluctantly, however I was blown away when I walked inside the door. It's actually bigger than my first house. The main bedroom even has a walk in robe and a double vanity in the ensuite. It's all very modern and stuff. The yard is just slightly larger than a postage stamp, but it's also funky and brand new and comes with it's own gardener. The best bit is that I get the full use of the tennis court and swimming pool! Emma and Brad were with me and they both were very keen to grab it. There is so much competition for rentals at the moment that they hold open days and then choose the tennant from there. We must have said something right because he chose us! We move in a few weeks time. Legoland? That's the name that many of the Kingston locals have given to the development because the shape, size and colours make it all look as if it was made by a kid out of Lego!

Many of you are already reaping the benefits of the free stuff that can be had from Australian websites. Some of you may have already seen the story I wrote on some of the great survey, competition and free give away sites there are in Australia. If you haven't seen my previous story, then click here. I wanted to let you know of my personal experience with two of the biggest Australian sites.
I've been a member of Emailcash for about a year. In that time I really haven't participated in much of their extra activities that can give you bonus points. All that I have really done is click on the email's that they send me to earn 5 points every time. The email's are all for really big well known Australian brands such as Telstra, news.com.au, Quickflix, P&O Cruises etc. Most of them are actually invitations to enter some great competitions. I haven't won any competitions (yet), but the email's and the sites that they take you to are always interesting, so I see these as a good thing! In that time I have accumulated enough points to redeem a $30 cheque and I'm only a few weeks away from a $50 gift voucher. That's not too bad for just clicking a couple of email's a week and if you buy stuff from their partners, play the online games, participate in their forums and do their surveys then you can earn heaps more points. Click here to go to the Emailcash website.
The other winner is the YourVoice panel. This is a survey panel that any Australian can join. This is the best paying website that I have ever signed up to. I have already received a kitchen blender for free and a Playstation Eye camera is on it's way as I type this. I bought the Playstation Eye camera with a $100 Dstore voucher that I redeemed from YourVoice, so I still have $20 left to spend. These guys pay well and every survey that you do gives you an entry into a quarterly draw for $16000 worth of car, travel or home entertainment gear. If you would like to join up then please contact me and I'll send you a referral email with a link to click that will allow you to sign up.
I know that there are a lot of "get rich quick" schemes on the Internet, but these two really do work!

This one was interesting. For some strange reason I decided to check my spam email folder. I found an email that looked legit asking for a price to advertise on Tasweb. This is the email;
Good day,
My name is Edward Johnson and I am looking to buy links from good websites as yours (tasweb.org).
I will be glad if I can have a text link or a text box 120x60 or
125x125 on your site. Please advise what what will be the price for
each of these ads, if it is placed:
1. On your homepage only
2. On all site pages
I will be very thankful to you if you take into consideration my requrest.
Kind Regards
Edward Johnson
I question everything that I receive in email, but at first I thought it was real. The fact that there was a real link to my real website gave it credence and the request seemed reasonable. People really do this sort of stuff. Then I noticed the slightly dodgy grammar/spelling and decided to look a bit further. Whilst the email was signed by Edward Johnston, it was sent to me by Isabel Whithead. I then looked back at my spam folder and found another two of these emails. One was signed by George Nelson and the other by my new friend Edward. The wording was identical, however the emails were actually sent from another two different people (i.e. not Isabel). Not only that, but the reply to addresses of each email came from different domains. I then Googled for my new friend Edward and found another site who had received the same email's and had decided that it was an overpayment scam. If I had replied they would have agreed on a price and then sent me a cheque for an amount more than the agreed price. They would then aplogise and ask me to transfer the balance back to them. Some time after that the cheque would bounce because it had actually been stolen in a different country. I'm out of pocket for the money I transfered and the crooks have pocketed some cash from a stolen cheque. I guess this is a form of money laundering by organised criminals. Apparently the email addresses are spoofed (forged). The moral of the story is "don't believe everything you see on the Internet"!!!

Remember when I said this about my tennis "I'm going to enjoy the winning feeling whilst it lasts as I'm pretty sure I will come crashing back to earth soon." ??? Well the winning feeling continued right through until I received my first serve last night. That was when I realised I was back in reality. I lost my singles match last night 0 - 6 !! I am supposed to be ranked with similar players. My "ITN" ranking is 8.5 (out of 10, where 10 is really bad and 1 is perfect), however when I asked someone how they come up with that she made a reference to her bottom, so I don't think it's very realistic. The fact that the guy I played last night has been playing tennis off and on for all of his life and yet he is also ranked 8.5 proves that the system isn't perfect. It was still a lot of fun and I can only improve from there! Our team (Evermore) were way out on top off the ladder, but I'm guessing that will have changed after last night. I lost all three games which makes me feel a bit bad for my team mates.
