The past two days have been crazy in Hobart. We have had record high temperatures and record low humidity along with insane winds. Combine that with morons with possum poo for brains and you have a recipe for disaster. It started with a fire that burnt up 68 hectares at Mount Nelson, and then the next day another deliberately lit fire burnt out almost 1600 hectares on the Eastern Shore. The Eastern Shore fire is still burning whilst the Mt Nelson one is still smouldering. I received an amazing photograph taken by Ian Stewart of the Eastern Shore fire taken last night. Ian holds the copyright to this photograph, however he has kindly allowed me to include it in this story. Apparently this photograph will be featured on the ABC weather report tonight and it will be included as a huge double page spread in the Mercury newspaper.
