Horse riding has been cancelled
Tuesday, 06 May 2008

Last week was Agfest week. Agfest rocks. It's a rural field day event at Carrick near Launceston with many hundreds of exhibitors and an attendance over it's three days approaching one hundred thousand. We went up on the Saturday. There were thirty thousand people there, and about ten thousand cars and yet not once did we have to stop and queue in the car and the place never felt crowded. There were some queue's in the Tasmanian gourmet food hall, however none were too long. Emma and Brad seemed to like the BWM stand and some of the boating stands the most. Not very rural stuff, however farm machinery all starts to look the same when you come from the city.

We decided to spend the night in Launceston so I booked us into the Launceston Country Club Casino for the night. It wasn't too expensive and it certainly impressed E&B. I was a bit impressed myself with the free valet parking, although it's a bit weird not knowing where your car is. They have a golf course there, but they also have a driving range (golf not cars). Why have we never thought of this before? We had awesome fun. Emma was on fire and hitting the ball really well, I just wish the bucket of balls was a bit bigger as it ran out way too fast. We had a swim in the pool and spent a long time in the spa. It was one of those modern ones with heaps of buttons to press and different jets and stuff to try out.

That night we met my parents for tea in one of the motel restaurants.  The food was good and it was great for all of us to catch up and have a good chat again. We gave my mum a mothers day present that we bought at Agfest. A bit early, but it was a good opportunity to do it in person.

The next day I had booked a horse trail ride as a surprise for Emma and Brad. They were trying to guess what it could be and decided it must have been cable hang gliding. We were all a bit disappointed when a note appeared under the door telling us that it was canceled due to inclement weather. We belted out another three buckets of golf balls (Brad was on fire this time) then decided to replace horse riding with a trip to the brand new Phenomena Factory exhibit at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery at Inveresk in Launceston. It only opened last week so everything was shiny and new.  It's a bit like a small version of the Powerhouse Museum or Questacon with some really cool science related exhibits that are all hands on and fun to do.

One of the best weekends we have had in a long time!
