A few months ago Mel and I went to a friends place for dinner and they had one of these amazing apple slinky machines. St Aloysius school, in Blackmans Bay had been selling them as a fund raiser. The kids all thought they were great and I've never seen so many apples eaten in the one place before. The photo shows the machine in the finished position. When you start the three prongs are all the way to the right hand side. You spear the poor apple on the prongs and then start winding. The apple turns around and moves to the left where it first encounters the spring loaded peeler. As the peeler is removing the skin in one continuous ribbon the apple moves into the slicer where it is sliced up in a circular fashion and at the same time the core is removed. You just slide the apple off the core and you have an apple slinky with no skin at all. Clean up is easy as you just rinse it under the hot tap. Emma and Brad love using it and are definately eating a lot more apples since I bought one. I got mine from Habitat in Kingston as St Aloysius didn't have any at the time. I've grabbed the images in this story from the web page of the people that make this awsome machine. I hope they don't mind. To keep them happy, here is a link to their website. They are big on doing deals with schools and have special fundraising prices, so please contact them if you are interested.
