What not to do with a $2M boat
Saturday, 08 September 2007

Club Marine are boat insurers and they usually run an ad in the Saturday newspaper. When they do they have this weird little black and white photo that I just couldn't make out. It kinda looked like a boat standing on it's bow, but I knew that just couldn't be right. That was until I stumbled upon this photo. It is actually a brand new $2000000 motor yacht being loaded onto a cargo ship for delivery to it's new owner. Something went terribly wrong and it fell into the sea. If (like me) you still have your doubts about this photo, then look closely are the rear right hand side of the boat and check out the poor guy hanging on for dear life as he rides it into the water!

phill - It really did happen   | Administrator | 15-09-2007 00:16:21
You never can tell these days, however this one really did happen. Apparently the props were ripped off by the slings as they slipped along the hull and the water wasn't that deep so it actually hit the bottom as well. The resulting damage (not to mention that it "floated" upside down afterwards) meant that it was written off. If you look really hard you can see the left arm of the second guy who was on board at the time. One of them broke their collar bone but they were otherwise unhurt.
